Why Submit Your Images for Exhibition?
Simply stated, whether amateur or professional, acceptance and exhibition of your photographic work helps to provide public validation of your artistry and adds an excellent reference to your resume. By establishing yourself through exhibitions, you broaden your ability to have others review your portfolio and increase your credibility in the art community.
We at the Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art dedicate ourselves to helping artists gain recognition and exposure to the art community and those who support it. During our Florida winter season, the Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art holds six to eight juried exhibitions divided between those for established and emerging artists and for the benefit of local and national charities. Solo and group exhibits are also presented, and weekly events and workshops provide further exposure and recognition. Selection for exhibition and merit during competitions can also lead to other opportunities such as additional exhibitions and publications.
Submitted works are judged based on the quality of the images, not the name of the artist or whether or not they are amateur, professional, or artists already well established. Work selected for exhibitions and juried competitions will hang from one to two months and will also be included online in our Past Exhibitions gallery. Submitted work is also placed for sale. Work submitted and donated to the Gallery of Hope exhibits will be included in the benefits Silent Auction. The Gallery of Hope submittals need be matted, but not framed. When sold, a charitable donation receipt for the sale amount can be provided to you.
Jurors selected for competitions and guest submissions are very prominent in the art community, both nationally and locally, and include established artists, educators, and leading fine art gallery owners. Jurors are selected based on their recognition within the art community as well and their ability to enhance the recognition and reputation of submitting photographic artists.
If you have any questions, please contact us through the links available on the Contact Page.
Portfolio Submissions:
The Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art actively seeks out new, as well as established artists for exhibition. Exhibitions can be shared, collaborative, or solo shows. Portfolios can represent works of differing subjects or they can be a cohesive body of work representing a single theme.
A portfolio submission should contain at least 10 to 12 images demonstrating the artist's abilities. In the case of a single theme work containing only a few images, several additional images, thematic or not, should be submitted so that the Gallery's Portfolio Review Committee can get an understanding of the artist. An introductory cover letter and an artist's statement about the theme would also be helpful, as well as an Artist's Bio; however, these are not required for review. Initial submissions may be made via email or by delivering a CD of images to the Gallery - addresses can be found on the Contacts page. In some cases, unframed matted prints may be requested for inspection before we accept images for exhibition.
The Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art retains a commission of 30% on artwork sales, although artwork on a Portfolio Exhibit is not required to be listed for sale. For exhibitions, the Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art provides title cards, a catered reception, regular gallery hours for viewing, and also local framing services for those who wish only to deliver matted prints for ease of shipping.
For those wishing to establish a deeper relationship with the Gallery, we offer further promotional benefits such as being featured in our online Artist Gallery, links to their art websites, and promotion at the local and national art events that we attend. Please contact our Gallery Directors for the exhibition fee schedules.
Calls for Entry and Contest Submissions:
At the Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art, it's about supporting the art of photography. It's about finding and supporting emerging and established artists. It's about providing a community for connections and education.
The Southeast Gallery of Photographic Art currently has six juried exhibitions a year following specific themes and these are open to all photographers and artists, amateur or professional. The gallery typically will select 30 to 40 prints to be hung for a two-month period. There are usually two opening receptions - the first is dedicated to the themed exhibit and contest, the second a month later is for a Gallery of Hope benefit, which further increases the exhibition's exposure.
Details for the upcoming Calls for Entry and exhibition and contest themes can be found at the Exhibition Page. For our submission guidelines and policies, please go to the Submissions Page 2, which also contains information about image format and size, and sending images to us.
